Drooping eyelids

Normal aging leads to a deterioration of supportive tissues. This natural process can be considerably accelerated by factors like smoking or sun damage and may lead to drooping or sagging of the upper eyelids. In fact, as the skin of our eyelids is far thinner than the skin of the rest of our face, this region is often affected quite early. Drooping eyelids however can cause people to appear much older or fatigued and, in extreme cases, even affect their vision. Upper blepharoplasty is a well established surgical procedure which improves appearance of the upper eyelids by removing excess fat and skin. This procedure can be performed on men and women alike and helps to recover a younger and fresher look.

Treatment

Blepharoplasty is usually performed under local anesthesia. A very precise high-energy laserbeam incises the skin along the natural crease of the upper eyelid and removes fat while simultaneously sealing small vessels surrounding the surgical site thus reducing postoperative bruising and swelling. The wound is closed with fine sutures. The whole procedure can last from 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Aftercare

After surgery, you should expect to have swelling an bruising around your eyes for at least 1 - 2 weeks.  You should allow 1 - 2 weeks of recovery and rest before resuming normal activities. A follow up appointment takes place 5 - 7 days after the procedure. At this time stitches are removed and wound healing is assessed.
